Barney gave up his long battle with dementia and complications from stroke and passed away on Thursday the 17th of January 2019.
Barney (Lee) was born June 25th, 1937 in Watauga County, North Carolina and was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Allegheny High School in Pennsylvania and then served six years in the US Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Lee served in Japan and Germany where he met his wife, Gisela Guenther, in the small town of Sandberg. They married in August 1961 in the Lutheran Church in Gersfeld, Germany and had two children, Diana and John Trivette. After completing his service in the Air Force, they moved to Goleta, California where they lived for the next 16 years. Lee worked for Metropolitan Insurance Co. as an insurance agent. While living in California, he developed hobbies such as scuba diving, spearfishing, rock collecting, and lapidary. In 1979, the family moved to Yakima, Washington, where Lee’s hobbies evolved into hiking, backpacking, skiing, and nature photography. He and Gisela were active in the Cascadian’s hiking club, where Lee began a photo club and made many life-long friends. Lee was also a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Yakima. While in Yakima, Lee worked for the Prudential Insurance Company, retiring in 1995. In 2006 while on a photography outing at Mount Rainier with good friend Becky Blair, Lee suffered a stroke. Becky was instrumental in assuring Lee’s quick rescue. Since then he received care from his loving wife Gisela at home for the next five years. He later moved to Good Samaritan Healthcare Center, where he received excellent care for the next eight years. The family wishes to express special thanks to the great and caring staff there!
Barney was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl South Trivette, father, Paul Trivette, and sisters, Carol and Naomi. He is survived by his wife, Gisela, daughter, Diana, son, John, daughter-in-law, Cheryl, granddaughter, Jessica, and sister, Rita.
